Swope Health Services Cover the Uninsured Week Award

KC CareLink was honored to receive recognition by Swope Health Services as a part of their 2008 Cover the Uninsured Week activities. Linda Davis, president, and Jean Hosseini, vice president for client services, were presented with a beautiful marble plaque.

The plaque reads: Presented to KC CareLink for its unwavering commitment to ensuring continuity and quality of care for Kansas City’s uninsured and underinsured citizens; the dedication and spirit of support demonstrated by KC CareLink staff has been and continues to be a source of inspiration; on behalf of our staff, our boards and the patients we serve, thank you for your ongoing and much-needed contributions to our community’s health. Barrett Hatches, President, May 2008.

Aligning Forces for Quality

On June 5, 2008, KC CareLink representatives attended the public announcement that The Kansas City Quality Improvement Consortium and 13 other community-based programs around the country will be recipients of a $300 million investment from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) to spearhead health-quality reforms through regional collaboratives. Known as Aligning Forces for Quality, RWJF’s initiative is unprecedented in its commitment of resources, expertise and training. It will bring together patients, health care providers and payers to turn proven practices for improving quality into real results, lift the overall quality of health care, reduce racial disparities and provide models for national reform.

As one of the Aligning Forces for Quality grantees, the Kansas City Quality Improvement Consortium (KCQIC) launched the KC Kick it up a Notch Campaign in June. KC Kick it up a Notch goals are to equip patients to make informed health care choices, engage physicians in public reporting and other processes to improve the quality of health care for patients, and increase the role that family and community resources play in helping people with their health care selections and services.
