A top priority of KC CareLink is data security which may require some organizations to make security-driven changes within their organization to ensure the optimal level of protection or patient data. Currently, organizations must provide a static, public facing IP address to access the KC CareLink application through the internet. Once access is granted, each user is provided with a username and password to gain entry into the system. Every action, e.g. viewing a patient file, creating or amending a referral, by a user is stored for HIPAA and auditing purposes.
KC CareLink exchanges data between organizations using secure file transfer protocols in both a batch a real time capacity, depending on the functionality available within an organization’s technical structure. To eliminate duplicative data entry and streamline the work process, patient enrollment is simple and fast, with majority of the patient data being automatically imported into KC CareLink.
KC CareLink is a web-based application that has been created by leveraging the Microsoft development platform and a centralized SQL database.
KC CareLink has over six years of success in developing and operating an information sharing network in our community. This has been achieved using a highly collaborative process where health care organizations contribute knowledge and expertise to technical, functional, relationship, process, and policy issues inherent in this endeavor.
